  参加长征的干部在陕北的回忆文章，以供宣传之需。此版本为1940年代稿本，最接近原始记录，且恢复原有之脱党者文章，价值较解放后修改版本不可同日而语，而基调固为宣传口吻，不免粉饰夸大，然史料价值独出无二。书中文章约百余篇，长短不一，多为日后身居高位者所撰，大多数文章带有“五四”之后抒情白话文之气，甚矫情，宣传干部作宣传文，并非实录，幸其文笔皆通畅。书中文章最佳者为红军总政治部宣传部长徐梦秋（莫休），亦是此书最初的主编，收录其五篇，篇篇精彩，置于民国经典文学而不愧焉，尤以彝区、草地行军最佳，史料细节动人，兼顾沿途风俗地貌，“红色史学家”当之无愧。此君后来叛变，建国后瘐死狱中，其长征文章亦被各版本所摒弃，实乃买椟还珠之举。书中文章次佳者为邓发（杨定华）两篇长文《雪山草地行军记》、《从甘肃到陕北》，颇能详记历程，邓发主持保卫工作，杀人如麻，文笔却在组织里清通一流。而在传统叙事中，中央红军过腊子口后行程极简略，有赖邓发一一记录。观此书而得知，中央红军长征以入藏区最为苦，原因是无粮；辗转云贵时战事虽多，但生活保障无虞；而长征最后阶段在陕甘宁地区，师老人疲，弹药无几，故以避战为主，颇受敌人骑兵所侵，掉队、损失亦不少，出草地藏区在哈达铺尚有14000人，至陕北吴起镇仅余七千人，损失远大于雪山草地，后世常不提及也。
