  2020.09 本书写的是关于读书方法的一切。虽然我看过不少同类型的书籍，但本书仍旧给予了我新的启发。

  一直以来，相较于阅读，我不是很擅长通过视频或播客的方式去获取知识。因为对于我个人而言，无论是视频还是播客，都是单方面的信息摄入，随着播放进度的迁移，我们的思考会像一只小船顺流下行，而非由我们自己主动划桨前行。阅读则不然，我们可以自主选择何时停泊去深入思索，这显然是一个更加主动的过程。关于这一点本书也进行了类似的探讨，作者指出在视频的全盛时代，通过画面人们可以十分轻易地就获得兴奋感，而文字则需要人们去阅读、去建构、去创造形象。有100个读者，就有100个哈姆雷特，唯独不是某个导演给你的那个。单纯的不费脑的娱乐也很快乐，但也永远只是一种被动的接受。

  朱熹的《楚辭集注》與王逸的《楚辭章句》，並稱爲《楚辭》學史上兩座“豐碑”，影響所及，至今無足以替代之，皆爲治《楚辭》的龜鑑。

  熹字元晦，號晦庵，又號雲谷老人、遯翁、晦翁、考亭先生等，祖籍徽州婺源，宋高宗建炎四年（一一三○）生於福建尤溪，寧宗慶元六年（一二○○）卒於建陽。理宗嘉定二年詔賜諡曰文，後世多以“文公”稱之。高宗紹興十八年戊辰（一一四八），登王佐榜進士第，先後官左迪功郎、泉州同安縣主簿、知南康軍、兩浙東路常平茶鹽公事、江南西路提點刑獄公事、秘閣修撰等，終寶文閣待制(事載《宋史》卷四百二十九《道學傳》)。

  朱熹是道學家，平生以弘道爲己任。但是，在晚年由於受朝廷重臣“趙汝愚永州安置”刺激及“僞學”一案所牽連，窮困潦倒，於“病中不敢勞心看經書，閑取《楚詞》遮眼”，於是作《楚辭集注》八卷、《楚辭辯證》二卷、《楚辭後語》六卷，顯然是有所寄寓的。這部書的字義訓釋，雖多取於王逸《章句》、洪興祖《補注》，而闡發義理，抉擇微言大旨，多有發明。如“男女君臣”之説，以《詩》“六義”貫通《離騷》等，自元、明以下的注家無不奉爲圭臬。凡治《楚辭》者，《集注》理所當然成爲必備、必讀的基礎文獻。

  《集注》成於寧宗慶元元年乙卯前後，始刊於慶元四年戊午（一一九八），其時《辯證》《後語》皆未成書，大概是《集注》的單行本，已見載於日本《大正三年内閣書目》，然國内未見藏此本。據熹題記，《辯證》成書於慶元五年己未（一一九九）。書成熹卒。熹在世時是否有《辯證》的單行刻本，已不可得知。清丁丙《善本書室藏書志》載，《辯證》之末有熹門人楊楫寧宗嘉定四年（一二一一）七月四日跋，稱：“慶元乙卯（一一九五），楫自長瀆往侍先生於考亭之精舍。時朝廷治黨人方急，丞相趙公謫死於道。先生憂時之意，屢形於色。忽一日出示學者以釋《楚辭》一編。楫退而思之，先生平居教學者，首以《大學》《論》《孟》《中庸》四書，次而六經，又次而史傳，至於秦漢以後詞章，特餘論及之耳。乃獨爲《楚辭》解釋，其義何也？然先生終不言，楫輩亦不敢竊有請焉。歲在己巳，忝屬胄監，與先生嗣子將作薄同朝，因得録而藏之。今以屬廣文游君參校而刊於同安郡齋。”其所説，非《辨證》單刻本，大約爲《集注》八卷、《辨證》二卷的合刊本，刻於寧宗嘉定四年（一二一一）同安郡齋。這個本子原爲傅増湘舊藏，傅氏《藏園群書經眼録》及王文進《文祿堂訪書記》皆見著録，今存臺灣，但見《辯證》二卷。而存於今者，唯以寧宗嘉定六年癸酉（一二一三）章貢郡齋刻本、理宗端平二年乙未（一二三五）刻本爲最早。但是，章貢郡齋刻本是個殘本，闕《離騷》《九歌》二卷，其完整無損者，衹有端平本矣。

  端平本爲朱熹孫子朱鑑所刻，元、明以後屢見翻刻，皆祖此爲藍本，如元至正二年（一三四二）傅氏刻本、十三年（一三五三）高氏刻本，明成化十一年（一四七五）吳氏刻本、天啓六年（一六二六）蔣氏刻本是也，至有三十餘種，其傳不可謂不廣。但是，古書每翻刻一次，往往增加新的訛誤，也是無法避免的，特别是明代，書商爲牟利，或者粗製濫造，或者妄改古書，《集注》恐也未能免。如，《離騷》“朝濯髮乎洧盤”，元刻二本、成化本“乎”作“於”。聞一多引季鎮淮云：“《離騷》語法，凡二句中連用介詞‘於’‘乎’時，必上句用‘於’，下句用‘乎’。‘朝發軔於蒼梧兮，夕余至乎縣圃’。‘飮余馬於咸池兮，總余藓醴錾！！[相觀於四極兮，周流乎天余乃下’。胥其例也。”其説甚是。則端本存其舊。《湘夫人》“鳥何萃兮蘋中”注：“蘋，水草。”元刻本、明天啓本注文“蘋”作“薠”。此注“蘋中”之“蘋”，非注“登白薠”之“薠”。端平本存其舊。《天問》“厥利惟何”注：“必有神人能凌到景。”元刻二本、成化本“到”作“倒”。到景，説所至月影，非“顛倒”之義。舊本是作“到”。又，“何惡輔弼”，元二刻本、成化本皆有“惡烏各反”之注。此本無。上文“夫何惡之”注：“惡，烏路反。”音與“烏各”同。則不當於此重複。《惜誦》“魂中道而無杭”注：“言夢登天而無航者。”元刻本、成化本“航”作“船”。朱注云：“杭，方兩舟而並濟也，通作航。”則舊本作“航”不作“船”。《九辯》首章末：“右一，章既無名，舊本連寫，或分或合，易致差誤。今既釐正，因各標章次以别之。”元二刻本、成化本無“章既”至“以别之”二十八字。據例，舊本當有此二十八字。又，“歷群神之豐豐”注：“豐厶，言多也。”元刻二本、成化本“厶”作“豐”。厶，重文符號，非“厶”字。舊本固如此，則不必校改。但是，端平本訛誤也是存在的。如，《離騷》“殫殃兮”，章貢本注：“殫音彈。”此本脱之。又，“荃不揆”注引陶隱居：“東間溪側有名溪蓀者。”章貢本“東”作“冬”，是。作“東”誤。《山鬼》“狖夜鳴”注：“又，猨屬。”正文作“狖”，則注文不作“又”。所以，在使用這個本子時，也應該引起重視，切戒以訛傳訛。爲方便讀者，故將其影印出版。

  This book is very dry and boring,I'd suggest ppl who into history of spicea read <Cumin, Camels, and Caravans: A spice Odyssey>.if I am not looking at an encyclopedia or a reference text, then I want my reading material to be stimulating too.

  Despite the description given on the back cover, the focus is more on studying the spice than on the history of people's efforts to get the spice. I strongly suspect that people who enjoy spices and who already have a working knowledge of them in the present will find this book more interesting than those who only know a little about them. I was able to best follow and understand the information on the spices I was most familiar with (like ginger and cinnamon) than the ones I'd never used before or which are no longer available.

  Each spice has a page or two written about it. Included are quotes from ancient sources which mention the spice, descriptions of the plant the spice is from and how the spice is made, information on where the spice originally came from and its spread (where it came to be grown), how the spice was used, which cultures used it, the trade routes and who traded it (if known), the value of the spice (if known), and ancient recipes using the spice. There were also brief sections describing the conflicts between nations as they tried to cheaply acquire certain spices.

  I would have appreciated maps showing where the spice was grown and the ancient trade routes used to get it, but none were included. However, the author did give enough of a description that I could probably work it out on my own if I spent some time at it.

  While the information was interesting and detailed, it was conveyed in a very dry way, like a textbook. In fact, I think this book would have been more accurately titled The Encyclopedia of Spices. However, it's clear that the author extensively researched the topic. This book probably contains the most accurate information known about spices, so this is the book to read if you're doing research on them.
